Of underrated Motherhood and overrated Mother’s Days’
Undoubtedly, most of us love our mothers. We may or may not express it, in a general manner of everyday conversations. Do we appreciate it? Hell, we do! A lot more after having kids of our own. That is how it happened to me, for sure.
The job expectations itself are overwhelming, and our generation has the whole peer pressure and social media to compete with. It takes a while to be comfortable with your style of parenting, with the mistakes you make, with learning and growing along with your children!
What is and isn’t motherhood? Here are my views:
It is a unique journey
It is ok to make mistakes
It involves a lot of high emotions -guilt, second guessing and sacrifice
It isn’t a competition
It isn’t judgement day everyday
It isn’t perfect
So put on your best smile, or cry when you have to. Make frantic calls to your friends or your mom when you want some sympathy or advice. Be kind to yourself and love yourself, for trying to be the best mother you can. And in the unique way that only you can.
And while I said it in the title, I am not big on the commercialization of Mother’s Day, but it is hard in today’s world to not say it – Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing women out there!
